Stampede Erupts in Gujarat as 1,800 Job Seekers Compete for 10 Positions

In Gujarat’s Bharuch district, a chaotic scene unfolded when approximately 1,800 job seekers gathered for walk-in interviews at a private company offering only 10 positions. The incident, confirmed to have occurred in Ankleshwar, was captured in a viral video showing the overcrowded and tumultuous situation outside the company’s office.

The footage reveals applicants pushing and shoving to secure a spot in the tightly packed queue, leading to the collapse of a railing. Some job seekers jumped off the ramp to avoid injury, while others were caught when the railing gave way.

Political Reactions:

The opposition Congress has criticized the Modi government’s ‘Gujarat Model’ in light of the incident. Congress shared a video on X, accusing the model of failing to address unemployment effectively. They remarked, “The Gujarat model of Narendra Modi has exposed itself. A large crowd of job seekers gathered in Bharuch for a few positions, highlighting the shortcomings of this model of unemployment.”

Rahul Gandhi also weighed in on X, stating, “Unemployment has become an epidemic in India, with BJP-ruled states at its epicenter. This is the reality of Narendra Modi’s ‘Amritkal’.”

In response, the BJP Gujarat countered on X, asserting that the job seekers were likely already employed elsewhere, as the advertisement for the walk-in interview specified experienced candidates. They accused Congress of trying to tarnish Gujarat’s reputation and spreading negativity.

Social Media Reactions:

Online users are criticizing the central government for inadequate job creation and questioning the effectiveness of the ‘Gujarat Model’.

One user commented, “This is Gujarat, not Bihar or UP. Yet, unemployed youth are fighting for limited positions in a private hotel.”

Another user remarked, “If Gujarat has so many industries and job opportunities, why are thousands of applicants fighting for just a few vacancies? The company in Ankleshwar was seeking candidates for roles like Shift Incharge and Plant Operator in the Chemical Industry, but the turnout was overwhelming.”
