Gen Z Applicant Calls Grump Founder a “Jerk” During Troubled Online Interview
Senain Sawant, founder of Grump social media agency, recently shared a LinkedIn post detailing a troubling incident during an online interview with a Gen Z applicant. According to Sawant, the applicant referred to her as a “jerk” after a series of technical issues.
Sawant posted screenshots of their conversation, stating, “The younger generation clearly needs better guidance. As a young entrepreneur myself, I’m shocked by the audacity of this candidate to address a company founder—or anyone in a hiring position—in such a manner.”
She explained that the applicant joined the interview with their camera off and claimed technical difficulties due to an iOS update. Sawant requested that the applicant turn on their video for a better connection, but the applicant agreed only to end the call.
Sawant noted that the applicant’s tone was off from the beginning and that the audio was unclear, suggesting they were in a noisy environment. Following the call, Sawant received a WhatsApp message from the applicant calling her a “jerk” for what he perceived as an arrogant attitude.
Social Media Reaction:
Many users expressed sympathy for Sawant and weighed in on the situation.
One user commented, “Being verbally abusive isn’t acceptable. However, in some places, demanding a candidate’s camera be on during an interview could be seen as an invasion of privacy. A phone interview might suffice for evaluating skills and experience.”
Another user said, “The sense of entitlement among some younger candidates is striking. These experiences often serve as valuable lessons for them. Don’t let this get to you; just move on.”
A third user added, “It’s unfortunate to experience such disrespect. Senain Sawant, keep your head up and continue moving forward. More power to you!”
