Akshat Shrivastava Proposes Hourly Pay to Address Long Work Hours

Akshat Shrivastava – Entrepreneur and Social Media Influencer

Entrepreneur and social media influencer Akshat Shrivastava has ignited a debate over pay structures by comparing Western and Indian models. He suggested that adopting an hourly pay system could help address issues related to long work hours in India.

In a recent post on X, Shrivastava criticized the stagnation of entry-level IT salaries in India, which he argued have failed to keep pace with inflation.

He noted, “Entry-level IT salaries in India have barely increased over the past decade. For instance, in 2012, the salary was 2.45 lakhs, and by 2022, it had only risen to 3.55 lakhs. This stagnation is concerning, especially after significant investments in education.”

Shrivastava also proposed solutions to improve the situation, including aligning college fees with job prospects, discouraging unpaid internships, and offering tax incentives for companies that train interns.

He added, “People work hard throughout their education to secure well-paying jobs. When these jobs fail to meet expectations, it leads to frustration. A pay-per-hour policy could be a key step towards addressing these issues.”

Social Media Reaction:

Users on social media have responded positively to Shrivastava’s suggestions.

One user remarked, “In the last decade, while top executives’ salaries have soared, entry-level pay has stagnated. Are freshers immune to inflation, or have CEOs become significantly more efficient?”

Another commented, “Entry-level IT jobs often offer worse conditions than manual labor. Many end up with health issues while earning minimal wages.”

A third user observed, “In contrast, skilled trades like carpentry offer better pay and working conditions, with less educational investment required. There’s a clear disparity.”
