Chaos Erupts at Mumbai Airport as 15,000 Compete for 1,800 Repair Jobs
On Tuesday, 15,000 job seekers descended on Air India Airport Services Ltd in Mumbai for just 1,800 handyman and utility agent positions. The scene turned chaotic as applicants climbed vehicles and trees, prompting authorities to intervene to prevent a stampede.
Videos circulating on social media capture the frenzy, showing the desperate rush to the interview center. The company had announced 2,216 vacancies for these roles, which involve various repair and maintenance tasks.
The recruitment drive, which was meant to fill immediate vacancies and create a waitlist for future openings, drew widespread attention. The Aviation Industry Employees Guild criticized the process as “mismanaged.”
The company assured that all submitted CVs will be reviewed and that eligible candidates will be contacted for further processing. This incident follows a similar event in Bharuch, Gujarat, where hundreds gathered for a few positions with chemical firm Thermax, resulting in another viral video of the crowded scene.
