The Indian startup ecosystem has experienced significant growth, with 14 startups achieving unicorn status this year. BrowserStack has recently joined their ranks, marking the 15th unicorn in just six months. Despite market disruptions caused by the pandemic, the startup community continues to drive economic growth and address various challenges with innovative solutions.
BrowserStack, founded in 2011 by Nakul Aggarwal and Ritesh Arora, started as a solution to a single problem: cross-browser testing. This Mumbai and San Francisco-based SaaS company provides a cloud-based platform for web and mobile application testing, enabling developers to ensure software quality across numerous digital environments. With a recent $200 million Series B funding round, BrowserStack has reached a valuation of $4 billion and entered the unicorn club.
According to Bain & Company, Indian SaaS companies could capture 7-9% of the global SaaS market by 2022. BrowserStack is the seventh Indian SaaS company to achieve unicorn status, joining the ranks of Freshworks, Druva, Icertis, Postman, Zenoti, and Chargebee.

The platform, serving over 50,000 customers in 135 countries and with four million developers signed up, aims to help users build bug-free software by testing across a vast array of devices, browsers, operating systems, and versions. The latest investment, led by US-based BOND and joined by Insight Partners and existing investor Accel, comes after BrowserStack’s $50 million Series A round in January 2018. The company has expanded its team to over 750 employees across seven countries and added ten new data centers in the past three years. Its client roster includes major names like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Twitter, and IKEA.
Nakul Aggarwal, co-founder and CTO of BrowserStack, highlighted the company’s commitment to reducing latency and improving developer efficiency with its global network of 15 data centers. Ritesh Arora, co-founder and CEO, emphasized plans to use the new capital for strategic acquisitions, expanding product offerings, and doubling the workforce to 1,600 within the next 18 months.
Jay Simons, General Partner at BOND, praised BrowserStack for simplifying the complex and costly challenge of cross-browser and device testing. The company’s global expansion includes a successful onboarding program for remote employees, reflecting its adaptability during the pandemic.
