In a recent podcast with YouTuber Ishan Sharma, BharatPe founder Ashneer Grover criticized the extended hiring processes and lengthy notice periods prevalent in many companies. He argues that these practices are inefficient and advocates for a more streamlined approach.

Grover suggested adopting a ‘hire fast, fire fast’ strategy to improve talent identification. He explained that traditional methods often involve prolonged hiring and onboarding phases, which can result in significant delays before assessing a candidate’s fit for the role.

“We’re investing too much time in hiring—through multiple rounds of interviews and waiting through notice periods,” Grover stated. “By the time the candidate actually starts, it’s been about six months, and then we wait another year to see if they’re a good fit. This is far too long.”

Grover emphasizes that a more efficient approach is to make hiring decisions quickly and evaluate performance in a shorter timeframe. “If you need someone in a week or two, bring them on quickly and judge them based on their actual work. It’s straightforward to see who performs and who doesn’t. So, hire fast and fire fast,” he concluded.
