bip.so – The Ultimate Wiki Tool for Slack and Discord Communities
Launched in late 2020, bip.so is a versatile wiki platform designed specifically for Slack and Discord communities. It features a powerful editor similar to Notion but integrates custom workflows to simplify knowledge management.
Key Features:
- Git-Inspired Workflow: Facilitates collaborative contributions while maintaining document integrity.
- Attribution System: Recognizes individual contributors, ensuring everyone is acknowledged.
- Unified Timeline: Keeps all members updated with the latest changes across documents.
bip.so stands out with its deep integration into Slack and Discord. Instead of managing access via email, bip.so uses existing roles and user groups within Slack and Discord to control permissions. Members can quickly access information through bip’s slash command functionality, and the bip bot updates channels with recent document changes, making it easier for new members to discover the wiki.
Currently, bip.so serves over 100 communities with a combined user base of more than 100,000. Community moderators report saving over three hours per week on manual tasks and have seen increased engagement with their documents.
Nitish Reddy, the founder of bip.so, shares, “The mission of bip.so is to help communities leverage the knowledge accumulated over time and provide an efficient way to utilize it. Many mature communities struggle with knowledge management, with new members frequently asking the same questions and valuable information getting lost in message history.”
He adds, “We aim to transform how communities manage knowledge by making it easy to create, retrieve, and share collective insights. Our vision is to create a platform akin to GitHub for knowledge, where users can not only build on their own knowledge but also contribute to and learn from the collective expertise of others.”
bip.so is currently free to use. The team plans to introduce a paid plan before December 2022 but promises to keep it free for not-for-profit communities.
