Cure.fit, founded in 2016 by Mukesh Bansal and Ankit Nagori, has evolved significantly since its beginnings. Based in Bangalore, this platform now includes eat.fit, mind.fit, cult.fit, sugar.fit, care.fit, cultsport, and live, offering a comprehensive range of digital and offline services in fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being. On June 10, 2021, Cult.fit, which rebranded its platforms on May 11, 2021, expanded into the fitness hardware market by acquiring TREAD, a Bangalore-based startup known for its smart fitness bikes.

As the pandemic impacted offline cult.fit centers and partner gyms, Cult.fit pivoted to digital solutions. Its ‘Live’ feature allows users to stream workouts from home and track their energy expenditure with an ‘Energy meter.’ Entering the hardware sector, Cult.fit plans to introduce a range of smart fitness products, including TREAD’s smart bikes and benches.

Mukesh Bansal, founder of Cult.fit, stated, “The fitness hardware market has significant potential, and as a leader in fitness, we aim to provide top-notch technology and products to our customers. The acquisition of TREAD represents a major step forward. Together, we will deliver a distinctive suite of products that enhances our at-home fitness offerings and sets cult.fit apart from others in the industry.”

Founded in 2020 by Dinesh Godara, TREAD offers a smart indoor fitness bike featuring live workouts, leaderboards for friendly competition, and virtual tournaments. Priced at Rs. 59,900, the compact and adjustable TREAD bike represents the future of home fitness. Following the acquisition, TREAD will continue to operate independently, merging its hardware with Cult.fit’s digital content to create a unique user experience. The bikes will be available for purchase online and in cult stores within the next two to three months.

Dinesh Godara, founder of TREAD, commented, “Partnering with Cult.fit will fast-track our product development and expand our reach. We’re launching a range of connected fitness products, starting with the TREAD One smart bike, followed by digital weight and resistance products, and smart home gym kits. We’ve already received substantial interest, with several hundred pre-orders.”

With previous acquisitions including Fitternity, India’s largest fitness facility aggregator, and Onyx, a California-based company offering advanced digital training experiences, Cult.fit is poised to lead the fitness industry. Having raised $479.6 million across 10 funding rounds, Cult.fit is backed by prominent investors such as Tata Digital, Temasek Holdings, Accel Partners, Kalaari Capital, and Chiratae Ventures.
