Mahindra Supports Job Creation Focus Amidst Budget 2024 Criticism
Despite the public backlash against Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasized the need for job creation. Anand Mahindra has echoed this sentiment, sharing a viral photo that captured the intense scene of 25,000 job seekers competing for just 600 positions at Mumbai airport.
Mahindra highlighted that the budget’s emphasis on job creation is crucial, stating on X, “The most significant aspect of the budget for me is the government’s clear recognition of job creation as a top priority. Skilling young people to make them employable is just as important as creating jobs.”
While acknowledging India’s robust GDP growth and its appeal as an investment destination, Mahindra stressed the need for substantial job creation to complement this growth. “We are admired worldwide for our GDP growth and as a favored investment destination due to confidence in our future. However, our immediate challenge is to ensure that this growth translates into significant job creation,” he noted.
Mahindra lauded the government’s job creation schemes, which include providing one-month wages to newly hired workers, incentivizing additional manufacturing jobs, and skilling 20 lakh youth over five years. These schemes are designed to create opportunities for 4.1 crore young people with a central funding of ₹2 lakh crore.
He urged for rigorous tracking of these initiatives to ensure their effectiveness and called for increased private sector involvement. “The announced schemes are promising but need close monitoring to verify their impact and adjust as necessary. The private sector must also contribute by investing in both employment and employability. Without collective effort, our demographic dividend risks becoming a demographic disaster,” Mahindra concluded.
