Homegrown video content platform Trell has achieved a major milestone by attracting 20 million new users from Tier 2 cities. This surge underscores the platform’s growing popularity and its expanding reach beyond major metropolitan areas.

Over 62% of Trell’s Active Users Now Hail from Tier-2 Cities and Beyond

Trell, the lifestyle community commerce platform, has seen a substantial rise in its user base following the Indian government’s ban on 59 Chinese apps. The platform now boasts over 45 million downloads and more than 20 million monthly active users. Notably, over 62% of these active users are from Tier-2 cities and beyond.

Since the app’s launch in 2017, Trell has grown tenfold, welcoming 5 million new content creators from both Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities. Top cities on the platform include Lucknow, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mysuru, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, and Goa.

In a market with over 530 million internet users, India stands as the second-largest internet market globally. A recent Zinnov report highlights that mobile is the preferred platform for online content among 81% of Tier-2 and 80% of Tier-3 users, with video content being the most favored type.

Trell, often dubbed the “Video Pinterest for Bharat,” allows users to create and share 3-5 minute videos on diverse topics such as health, beauty, travel, and more. The platform’s regional focus reveals varied interests: Northern and Northeastern cities favor Personal Care, Fashion, and Food, while the South leans towards Recipes, Gadgets, and Yoga. Users from the West engage heavily with skincare and fashion content. Trell also offers rewards and incentives, including goodies and vacations, to its users.

Pulkit Agarwal, Co-Founder of Trell, commented on the platform’s rapid growth, stating, “We are thrilled by the extraordinary support from our Indian community. Our goal is to nurture and expand this community, ensuring a seamless experience for users sharing their lifestyle tips and experiences. We aim to build a robust, passion-driven network of content creators and audiences across various Indian languages.”

Recently, Trell surpassed the active user counts of social media giants like Twitter and Pinterest in India. With over 62% of its users from Tier-2 cities and beyond, Trell is further expanding its reach by adding three new languages—Marathi, Kannada, and Bengali—bringing the total to eight languages. The platform plans to introduce new features such as “Talk Show Hosting” and “Reaction Video Maker” to enhance user engagement and content creation.
